When is Jesus Coming Back?

Everybody wants to know!

When is the rapture? When is the end of the world? Will there really be a time of tribulation? When is Jesus returning? How will we know?

Many so-called prophets have made predictions in the past, and every one of them have been wrong!

Matthew 24:3-5
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.
5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

As you can see these questions started a long time ago. Is it okay to ask? Sure! Does He answer? Well, let’s explore what the Word of God has to say.

Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Matthew 24:23-24
23 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it.
24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Matthew 24:36
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

Matthew 24:42
Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.

Matthew 24:44
Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Matthew 25:13
Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Since Jesus walked the earth people have asked “when is He coming back and when will be the end of time?” For some reason God thinks it’s best we do not know the exact time of His return. I think we can all trust Him that He is doing the right thing!

But the Bible is forever proving itself, as false prophets continue to show up claiming to have been given inside information about the exact date of the return of Christ. William Miller (the leader of the Millerites) prophesied it was going to be between March 21st, 1843 and March 21st, 1844. When that did not happen he changed it to October 22nd, 1844. As many as 100,000 followers gathered at the predicted time in makeshift temples and on hillsides to “meet the bridegroom.” Oops! That was the end of the Millerites – they all left in disappointment!

At www.religioustolerance.org they have record of 63 failed predictions between 30 AD and 1990 AD! Remember Y2K?

In 2008 there was a lot of talk about Rabbi Mark Biltz’s discovery of the match between the lunar and solar eclipses with the Jewish calendar. Although it was an amazing discovery and worthy of deeper study, he did not make September 29, 2008 a prediction, but rather called it a “watch.” Smart move!

With very complicated mathematical studies of the Bible Harold Camping predicted May 21, 2011 as the day of the rapture – it didn’t come. I put the date on my calendar and watched the countdown with amusement, knowing May 21 would come and go and life would be the same on May 22. The very choosing of the date was an indication Jesus would not return that day, because Jesus said it will be a day and hour when we are not expecting it. Now Camping says the end of the world will be on October 21, 2011. That’s just nine weeks from today. Again, I put it on my calendar! I love it when people give exact dates! It readily identifies a false prophet.

Now there is much talk by many about 2012 and 2015. I personally believe we know one thing for sure (positively), and this is my prediction… “we are closer now than we were before!” I like what Gloria Copeland says; “I believe we’re in the Last Days. But even if it’s not “The Last Days,” It’s our last days! Be ready!”

1 Thessalonians 5:4
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.

If we are not in darkness, we should know something! If we look at the times, we can definitely tell we are rapidly getting closer. We might not know the day or the hour, but if we are not spiritually asleep, we should know we are close. We know there needs to arise a one-world government and economy. How? Because the book of Revelation tells us there will be a one-world ruler it calls the anti-christ, and his right hand man, the false-prophet who demands everyone to make an image of the anti-christ to worship and serve. They must also take the mark of the anti-christ on their right hand or forehead to buy or sell anything.

Are we headed for a one-world government and economy? The last few years have been very interesting! Many so-called “world” experts are now saying it’s the only answer for peace and prosperity. It will look that way at first, but the final results will be disaster.

Anyway, what was Jesus saying in His great “end-time” discourse in Matthew chapters 24 and 25?

  1. Preach
  2. Watch
  3. Be ready
  4. Be about His business (Kingdom business)
  5. Invest in His Kingdom
  6. Whoever you minister to – you are ministering to Him!

Matthew 25:26-27
26 But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.
27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.

Matthew 25:34-36
34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

The point? He is coming back – get busy! How many souls can we take with us? How many disciples can we mentor before His return? The answer… the longer He waits the more people we can save and disciple! I want Him to return, but I want to get as many people saved and discipled as I can before He comes. Knowing that each day we are one day closer motivates to me to believe for more, pray for more, crusade for more, preach for more, write for more, shout for more, play (drums) for more, give for more, sing for more, serve for more, travel for more, dance for more, confess for more, walk for more, fast for more, more… more… more… more… more.

Remember… “we are closer now than we were before! Read Matthew Chapters 24-25 in their entirety!
